News: Draft 6 – A bill to amend 1994 PA 451 “Natural resources and environmental protection act”
2018: March 21 – Changes to Michigan Legislation Update – Solid Waste Management Plans/Recycling Event at KVCC was a success. Thank you to MDEQ and MRC for coming out and speaking on new proposed legislation that we may see in Michigan’s future. Thank you to county commissioners, municipality boards, and recycling partners for joining us with great questions, ideas, concerns, and feedback to help the development of Michigan Recycling Initiative. The following links provide information that was presented at the 3/21 event:
March – The SWMSWC applied and was awarded the 2018 MDEQ Scrap Tire Grant making it the 7th year hosting tire collections throughout the region. Together the $44,000 grant award will allow us to host 15 different collection events throughout our counties and fill up to 22 semi trailers with passenger tires. 2017: Member Counties had another successful Scrap Tire collection series that was funded my the MDEQ Scrap Tire Cleanup Grant. Member Counties filled 18 trailers and collected a total of 14,281 partial tire equivalent (PTE).
In March 2017, the SWMSWC became a Recycle, MI Partner. Recycle, MI is a marketing campaign developed by the Michigan Recycling Coalition to raise awareness of and participation in recycling programs across the state. Recycle, MI is a vital part of contributing to the quality of life we value, the jobs and economy we grow, and the natural resources we strive to conserve and protect. Everyone lives in Recycle, MI. Past Regional Projects/Events
2013 – 2019:
- Clean Sweep Pesticide Collections – helping to protect the state’s natural resources and prevent agriculture pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of outdated, unused or unwanted pesticides in Michigan
2012 – 2019
- Summer Scrap Tire Clean-up Events
- Unwanted TV and Computer Collection due to the digital switch of TVs. This event generated 141,000 lbs!
